This is an example of a music video which doesn't show key features that should be typically in a music video. Throughout the whole of the music video you can tell that this was done last minute because the site looks like a school. One example of this is when they have written 'thrift shop' on the a whiteboard in a classroom with a black pen and in the corner of the shot you can see the schools displays slightly. Instead they could of asked a shop if they could film in there or turned one of their rooms in their house to look like a thrift shop.
Another example of the group filming in the school is the environment, the shots repeatedly shows the railings and gates and in a long shot they you can see the name of the school on the wall.
Also what makes this group look like they have filmed last minute is the fact that it looks messy when filming. In one part of the video a boy is standing in the shot holding another camera and when he looks up its like he is told to get out the shot and he smiles and steps back. This shows that the video is most likely to be rushed because they had to put that shot in because they didn't have anything else in time.
There is some positive aspects to this music video, somewhere near the beginning of the video they have placed some disco lights for one shot and a blue black ground in another shot with the word 'frost'. I do not think they have used a green screen for this because you can see a reflective light in the shot. It looks as if they have shown some lights onto the board, however, looks good considering most of the video appears to be have completed in a short amount of time and is creative if the school does not have the facilities such as a green screen.
Above is a link to a music video of someone who got an A Grade in their coursework for their A2 Media Studies. I would say the genre this music video fits into is Indie Pop because the settings they have used are low on budget as they have used available places. For example, the streets and the woods. They have filmed most of their scenes in the dark using available lighting through street lamps. The music video follows a narrative as it starts with her in an empty space with drugs and alcohol, and soon she is being kicked out of a house and is left to wonder the streets at night because of addictions. The gender being represented is accurate it is showing women are weak and have to use drugs and alcohol to help them through and they aren't strong enough by themselves. This links back into the song where the lyric says ' I have to stay high all the time to keep you off my mind.' This further reinforces that females can't cope with heartbreak and upset and immediately fall to pieces. The ethnicity shown in this music video is of an Asian descent, stereotypically it would appear for white girls to be going off of track and turning to drugs, like seen in the Ed Sheeran A Team music video. Asian girls are often dedicated to their work and are high achievers of all aspects. This is where they have subverted the stereotype to show that all women can have breakdowns and are going through the same pain everyone else does and can be influenced by drugs and alcohol.
The class the girl is of is hard to establish, we are first see her in what could be a basement because it looks empty and cold and she is seen putting her stuff in a black bin bag. Someone finds her but it is unclear if it is a stranger or her father. She gets kicked out, but if the house is hers it shows she is middle class because the house looks wealthy. Even if that wasn't her house she is seen to have some class because one of her costumes is a Nike T-Shirt.
If she was middle class the music video shows her going down a class because she is now homeless and walking around looking for somewhere to stay.
In the bridge of the song their was a fast beat and on each beat the camera shots would change to a different shot in a different setting she has been to. This is effective because the bridge is by the end of the song and this is rounding off everywhere she has been showing the audience what she has been through. They have used a wide range of shots, they have used close ups of her face to show her emotions she is having through this hard time. They have used many establishing shots to show the different areas she has been to. This is effective because gives the audience more detail about where the girl is going and what she is up to. Also the establishing shot of the traffic is effective because it shows that everyone still goes on with their day no matter what, everyone just doesn't stop because your having a bad day.
The legal age to drink the UK is 18, therefore the target audience for this music video would be young adults as the music video is constantly showing the abuse of drugs and alcohol which are mature issues to talk and sing about. The target audience can also be given as the actress looks like she around 17/18, if it was directed towards children then a younger star would have been placed in the video to make that more apparent. This would not be directed for those who are 14 and under as hopefully they haven't experienced this. However, as you progress through school you mix with the wrong crowd and know and experience this from a very early age, so they could relate to the song as well.
All three girls we have chosen for our music video are within the age of our target audience, this means that the audience will be able to relate to them more because when singing the lyrics they will all be going through similar things together. When taking our test shots all three are very photogenic and all seemed confident in front of the camera.
We felt like Lauren and Mikah would be a good potential actors is because both have a good personality and very bubbly which would be brought out and shown throughout our music video. Both actors are friends of the group therefore when we come to film the music video it wouldn't be awkward for us because we would be able to film while having a good day out and have a laugh.
The reason why Lauren and Mikah will not be chosen for our music video is because both have a part time job while doing their A-Levels which is mostly coursework based. This means they do not have the required time we would need for our music video because they would be working at the weekends and then be completing their coursework afterwards to meet their deadlines.
Our final potential actor is Ella who will be chosen for our music video. Like the others she has a good personality and will bring a lot to the video. Ella also has an advantage because she is a dancer and is very creative, she has taken dance outside of school when she was younger and has taken dance at GCSE and is now taking it as an A-Level, this means she is very confident in front of crowds etc. which will benefit our group when we need to film in public places. If we decided to have a dance part during our music video Ella will already have the skills needed, whereas Lauren and Mikah aren't familiar with dance. We are also friends with Ella so filming won't be awkward with her either and we can all enjoy a day filming a music video.
